TUFFY in ADVERTISING
Tuffy the Ram became a powerful symbol of Angelo State University’s pride and identity, making him a natural fit for advertising both on and off campus. The ASU Bookstore was among the first to incorporate Tuffy into its promotions, featuring him on a variety of items such as notebooks, matchbooks, and shopping bags, ensuring his presence in students’ daily lives. Tuffy’s appeal quickly extended beyond campus as local businesses adopted his image to connect with the university community.
Companies like Central National Bank used Tuffy on personalized checks, while M.L. Leddy & Sons integrated him into their advertisements for boots and saddles.
These collaborations not only strengthened ties between ASU and the San Angelo community but also cemented Tuffy’s role as a recognizable and marketable mascot, embodying the spirit and camaraderie of the university.
