D'Alton Blevins

D'Alton Blevins holds a special place in the history of Angelo State University as the original artist who brought Tuffy the Ram to life and as a long-time employee of the ASU Bookstore.

In the mid-1960s, Blevins created the first known illustration of Tuffy, establishing the foundation for what would become a beloved symbol of ASU pride and spirit. His distinctive design of a strong, determined Ram wearing a letterman sweater set the tone for Tuffy’s enduring presence on campus and inspired countless representations of the mascot for years to come.

Through his role at the bookstore, Blevins was also instrumental in promoting Ram pride, helping to distribute merchandise and materials that featured his iconic design. Though many artists would later reinterpret Tuffy, it was Blevins’ creative vision that laid the groundwork for decades of mascot tradition, making him an essential figure in preserving and shaping ASU’s visual identity.
